Milena Mladenova is part of the new generation of young contemporary artists, whose creative style is distinctive, recognizable and authentic, without the unnecessary posturing. Academically trained and working both in the fields of painting and sculpture, Milena has participated in numerous international workshops and joint exhibitions, has held various solo exhibitions and her artworks are part of private collections around the world.

Milena explores the interrelations between man and nature, as well as connections and dependencies between the visible and the invisible, between the material and the spiritual world. Her art is an amalgam of reality and mystic imagery. Her creative process is instinctively emotional, as the images are born in the work process and from the intuitive search for the right balance between form, space and color. Her visual language is figurative on the verge of abstractionism, based on hidden symbols through readable codes and fantastical deceptions of shapes. Unique in her artistic expression, the young professional artist recreates a deeply intimate world - vital and lyrical. Without imposing philosophical postulates, she explores topics such as love, friendship, loneliness, belonging, identity, overcoming inner barriers and fears, the invisible threads that connect us to our inner child and the world.

On the two-dimensional space of the canvas, Milena presents dreamlike visuals through the use of suggestive forms and energetic color palette. She examines events in a person’s life, delicately revealing internal processes and emotional states. The real and the imaginary are featured as substances of the human psyche. The painter depicts bizarre scenarios and surreal landscape scenes, populated by enigmatic shapes, block of colors, contour lines and silhouetted, monochrome figures. Milena unobtrusively evokes a specific atmosphere and spectrum of feelings, while allowing the viewers to experience the painting according to their personal sensibility and inner sense of perception.

Milena’s artistic impulse to explore private aspects of humanity and nature is also visible in her other professional vocation – the three-dimensional space of sculpture. Although she has experienced different mediums in her plastic searches, the sculptor prefers to work primarily using natural stone. The stone is the material which allows her fully to recreate the desired shape, feeling and impact. The gentle female artist carves the harsh stone and shapes it into sculptures that appear delicate and soft. Using an artistic maturity, Milena infuses the hard material with her sensibility in order to achieve simplicity and balance.
